Now Is The Time: The Next Stage ‘Preservation & Progress’ Capital Campaign
“Next Stage is in the midst of a transformation that combines full accessibility and modern comfort for audiences and performers with the preservation of this magical 1841 landmark venue.” – Billy Straus, Campaign Co-Chair and Next Stage Arts Project President
In 2010, a small group of community artists began programming music, spoken word, and film in a beautiful, historic, former church building in the center of Putney, Vermont. The building had wonderful bones, but was in desperate need of major system upgrades. A few years in, despite the peeling paint and lack of accessibility, Next Stage had established itself as a vital hub of activity, drawing audiences from far and wide. In 2014, a major grant from ArtPlace America helped to launch the Preservation and Progress Capital Campaign, bringing the definitive upgrades to the building into the realm of the possible.
With your partnership, we now have the opportunity to complete the building’s transformation into a modern, state of the art performance venue with a community kitchen and flexible space for classes, community suppers, and smaller performance events on the first floor. We will deepen Next Stage’s engagement with the community, honoring the power of art and performance, and the value of real time, shared experiences.
