PUTNEY VAUDEVILLE is back by popular demand, for a family matinee on Sunday, May 21, 2017, at 4pm at Next Stage.
PUTNEY VAUDEVILLE is the ongoing project of director Rebecca Waxman and musician Peter Siegel (of The Gaslight Tinkers). A showcase for first-class entertainment and community talent, the event includes a stellar professional act, a rousing house band, assorted friends and neighbors displaying surprising talents, and good-natured audience engagement.
The May 2017 Putney Vaudeville will feature the beloved performer Kevin O’Keefe, known internationally for his work with Circus Minimus and CircusYoga.
Kevin Maile O’Keefe has traveled the world since 1985 to both teach and study circus, theater and yoga. As the artistic director of Circus Minimus he has directed residencies and performances that have touched the lives of over 100,000 children and their families. In 2001 he was honored an Excellence in Education award from the International Jugglers Association. He received an advanced Hatha yoga certification in 1991 from the Integral Yoga Institute. In 2008, in honor of many years of teaching, Mayor Matthew Ryan of Binghamton, NY declared the first two weeks of August to be “Circus Minimus Days”.
For five years Kevin was an instructor at the Big Apple Circus School in Harlem, New York. He is the founder and past president of the American Youth Circus Organization. As a NYC-based Equity and SAG actor, Kevin performed on stage, screen and television.
For many years Kevin instructed at the Big Apple Circus and Sarah Lawrence College. With his wife Erin Maile he co-founded the practice and community of CircusYoga. The New Yorker magazine recently wrote “Circus Minimus taps into the imaginative powers of children while giving them solid circus skills.”
