Naomi Shelton And The Gospel Queens Return May 6!

Last year Naomi Shelton and The Gospel Queens raised the roof of the Next Stage Theater, bringing the full house to its feet after the first song and keeping them dancing until the end of the show.  This year the group returns May 6 to work its magic once again, and The Next Stage will be clearing out the front seats to accommodate the dancers.  Naomi Shelton has a long history in gospel and soul music, having sung in the church and then in New York clubs for many years before being signed to Brooklyn’s infamous Daptone label.  Her immensely popular Daptone releases have taken her to stages and festivals around the world. She is a magnetic performer, and her deep, gritty voice has led many to compare her to James Brown. In fact, one member of her group toured with James Brown, and another performed with Sam Cooke and Solomon Burke.  Naomi Shelton And The Gospel Queens are the real deal, with deep roots and a powerful, soulful and uplifting sound that is a rare gem in today’s world.  They are not to be missed.  Here’s a clip from last year’s show:
